The Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra is joined by Brighton Festival Chorus for a stirring opening to its autumn season. Shostakovich’s lively Festive Overture provides an orchestral prelude to a feast of British choral music. Handel’s masterpiece Zadok the Priest is followed by Parry’s profoundly moving response to World War One, commissioned for the 1914 Brighton Music Festival. Then Elgar moves from the bustle of Edwardian London, depicted in the Cockaigne Overture, to the idyll of a Bavarian summer, interspersed with two glorious settings of Psalms.
