In 1850, Queen Victoria sold the Royal Pavilion Estate to Brighton Corporation. Architect Philip Lockwood transformed the former royal stables into a concert hall and assembly rooms. His Moorish interior design featured richly coloured decoration, stained-glass windows, and a vast gas-powered chandelier that formed the centrepiece of the room.

The new concert hall opened on 5 June 1867 and subsequently welcomed many celebrated artists and composers, including Edvard Grieg, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, and Edward Elgar.

On Fri 26 Jun, George Jackson conducts an exciting programme including music by Elgar, Samuel Coleridge Taylor, Grieg, Vaughn Williams and Walton. Plus a special guest singer joins the orchestra to perform songs made famous by Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone, who both sang at Brighton Dome over the years.
