Finding Your Funny Workshop
A 6 day clown & comedy workshop for people in recovery in partnership with Kennedy St Recovery Hub
Laughter really can be the best medicine! If you've experienced substance use challenges, this unique series of comedy & clowning workshops is for you. Through play, performance, & connection, you'll discover the healing power of humour & have a good laugh while you're at it. Whether you've never set foot on a stage or you're just curious to try something new, Finding Your Funny helps boost self-esteem, build confidence, & create a strong sense of belonging. It's a safe & supported space to be silly & turn life's messiness into moments of joy.
Join Spymonkey's Petra Massey, a world-class comedy performer, teacher, & co-founder of the legendary international comedy troupe Spymonkey. With 40 years of experience in making people laugh, Petra brings warmth, wisdom, & a whole lot of fun to every workshop. Petra will be assisted by the inimitable clown Peter Mielniczek & Kennedy Street Recovery Hub's certified professional recovery coach, Sam Hunt.
“The first thing FYF did was restore my sense of humour. I was laughing at myself within half an hour – without shame. That meant everything.” Simon
“Sometimes, you don’t realise how significant a first step is, till you take it. Its clear though that this is a safe & confidential space where you are free to express as much as you are comfortable with” Khasha
More about Spymonkey
SPYMONKEY are the UK’s leading physical-comedy ensemble, based in Brighton and have been making Theatre of the Funny since 1998.
Our vision of success is based on the creation & facilitation of laughter. We believe human beings are social animals. When we laugh together, at the same thing, our common humanity is made physically, audibly manifest. Laughter is literally contagious.
With our dark, edgy physical comedy rooted ‘somewhere between Monty Python, the Marx Brothers & Samuel Beckett’ (The Houston Chronicle), Spymonkey have proved to be a truly international phenomenon, enjoyed by, & accessible to, a wide range of international audiences. Over 2 million people have seen our work in some form.
Our expanding training programme sees us regularly teach all over the world with professional clown performers, activists & community facilitators, as well as working with charities and NGO organisations.
