Brighton Dome Brings Outstanding Classical Music Back to Audiences this Autumn
World renowned classical musicians will perform a rich and diverse programme for Brighton audiences this autumn, from Beethoven to Brahms, Frank Martin’s Irish folk tunes and the music of acclaimed Northumbrian musician Kathryn Tickell.
Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) gets the season off to a vivacious start as Music Director Joanna MacGregor CBE directs two of Mozart’s most cherished piano concertos from the keyboard, mixed with the excitement of Britten and Piazzolla, in Young Apollo, on Sunday 26 September. On Sunday 7 November, BPO celebrates the elements in Great Baroque: Playing with Fire, a feast of music directed from the harpsichord by Robert Howarth, who is establishing a reputation as a gifted director and conductor of early and classical repertoire. A Celtic Christmas with Kathryn Tickell and Friends on Sunday 5 December is fabulous first collaboration between BPO and Tickell, a composer, a brilliant performer and raconteur, whose work is deeply rooted in the landscapes and bountiful heritage of folk music. The orchestra’s New Year’s Eve Viennese Gala promises an afternoon of musical fizz and fun featuring favourites from the Strauss family and the wonderful world of Viennese operetta.
London Philharmonic Orchestra make a welcome return to Brighton Dome’s Concert Hall for the first time since lockdown last year with From the Depths on Saturday 9 October. Conducted by Glyndebourne Music Director Robin Ticciati with music by Brahms and Mozart, this event will be packed with big emotions and even bigger performances. It is the first in a new season of concerts that features a host of outstanding artists, including saxophonist Jess Gillam and clarinettist Andreas Ottensamer.
From 24 October, the monthly series of Sunday morning Coffee Concerts, programmed in association with Strings Attached, will resume at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts in Falmer. The concerts showcase chamber music from around the country, with artists including the award-winning Adelphi Quartet and the Brahms Horn Trio. As part of the Cavatina scheme, which aims to introduce younger audiences to chamber music, a limited number of free Coffee Concert tickets will be available to reserve for children aged 8 to 15 years old.
