Phase One preparatory work to start in the Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre this autumn
Since 2013 we have been working towards an ambitious culture and heritage-led vision for the Royal Pavilion Estate and its surrounding areas in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council and the Royal Pavilion and Museums, starting with a major refurbishment of Brighton Dome Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre.
The transformation of the Corn Exchange will restore and reveal original heritage features of the former Prince Regent's Riding House as well as provide increased capacity seating and a magnificent new viewing gallery. Major improvements to the Studio Theatre will include balcony seating, a new artists' creation space, new bar facilities and a café opening onto New Road.
This autumn we will lay the groundwork for this exciting new phase with preparatory work starting in the Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre. This initial work, consisting of essential maintenance, decoration and repairs as well some relocation of staff and technical equipment, will help smooth the way for the next stage of our redevelopment plans as we work towards construction starting in January 2017. We will do our best to ensure that disruption at this time is minimal.
Meanwhile our rich and varied programme will continue in the Concert Hall throughout the redevelopment period. Highlights this season include the return of the inimitable BalletBoyz; a diverse music programme that features cabaret king Alan Cumming and Grammy winner Corinne Bailey Rae alongside resident orchestras BPO and LPO; and top flight comedy from the likes of Nina Conti, Russell Kane and many more. Our packed Christmas season pairs a magical staging of Alice in Wonderland by Ballet Theatre UK with the high-octane circus of Catch Me! from the internationally acclaimed Quebec ensemble Flip FabriQue.
Elsewhere, you will also find us popping up in partner venues across the city, including the recently-opened Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA) at University of Sussex, which plays host to jazz favourites GoGo Penguin, and our much-loved Coffee Concert chamber music series which migrates there later in the season.
